Type Locality and Naming

Along Mount Khauzieram, left bank of the Khanaka River, western part of the Zarafshan–Gissar mountain region, in the basin of the Kashkadarya River. Muftiev et al., 1978 (314, p. 46).

Synonym: Khauzieramskaya Suite, Хаузерманская св., Hauserman Fm


Lithology and Thickness

A weakly rhythmic sequence of light-gray to gray limestones with brownish tones, alternating with layers of massive, foraminiferal, nodular, and crustose limestones, with rare interbeds of oolitic limestone. Thickness 120–200 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the massive limestones of the Khalikdot Fm

Upper contact

Upper contact with the terrigenous Marguzor Fm being tectonic throughout.

Regional extent

Restricted to the southern part of the Zeravshan–Gissar mountain region.

Contains foraminifers and conodonts – Palmatolepis gigas Mull. et Young., P. linguiformis Mull., P. rhomboidea Sann., P. triangularis Sann., P. crepida Sann., P. Age 

In Mount Khauzieram, the formation covers the conodont zones from P. triangularis to P. marginifera, corresponding to the Famennian Stage of the Upper Devonian.
